Quicken

The Personal Finance Program from Intuit.

1st DAY OF CLASS: Purchase and Install Quicken 2008 or later on your computer before day one of class and bring a flash/thumb drive with you on the first day of class (512 MB minimum)

This course teaches the use of Quicken as a report generator to display personal finance information. The generated reports and displays help meet any or all of the following goals:

  1. Know where my money is going.
  2. Enable Budget change decisions
  3. Get out of debt
  4. Track all my investments in one place
  5. Determine my net worth

The Quicken application aids in personal financial decisions. Many households have his and hers checking accounts, his and hers charge cards, his and hers paychecks or retirement incomes with some joint investment income to confuse things. In today's economy we use many methods to pay bills such as credit cards, electronic bill payment and even hand written checks. Under these conditions some questions are difficult to answer.

a. Do you really know how much it costs to drive your car?

b. Which is better, an expensive car repair or a new car?

c. Is it cheaper to fly to Washington DC or drive?

d. What is the impact on your financial situation if you make an unexpected visit to the grandkids in Minneapolis?

e. Can you afford to help when your son or daughter has a financial crisis.

f. Are you prepared for an unexpected medical event like glasses or a root cannel?

Everyone has a unique financial situation. Some can afford to not worry about money. Others need to look closely at any change in the pattern of spending money. Quicken is the tool to provide this information.

Quicken is an advanced class. Students should have a basic knowledge of computer usage, data entry, spread sheets, an understanding of folder and file concepts and an understanding of download processes.
